This issue Peter continues his countdown to the number one strategy for reaching your goals.
4 Don’t Forget to Breathe
I took breathing for granted for 43 years. I didn’t realize how important it was until I stopped one night – started choking, started hyperventilating - froze with fear as I lay helpless on my bed feeling the breath slowly draining from my body. The result of years and years of pent up anger, guilt, frustration and unrelieved stress. The result of years and years of keeping thoughts, true feelings and emotions in – of swallowing them instead of releasing them. I had become a short shallow, mouth breather – not even realizing that I could take control. That I could control my breathing – that I could slow it down – that I could control my central nervous system. Not realizing that I could control my anxious thoughts, my stress, my tension, through learning to control the breath. Not realizing that I could learn to calm down – let go of the distracting thoughts and the body’s aches and pains - through slowing the breathing down and deepening it. I now run breath workshops for singles, couples and groups both at work at home. Eighty percent of the people I work with don’t breathe properly – they restrict their creativity, their performance because they are short shallow breathers. Learning to breathe properly again saved my life. How is your breathing? It is one of the main keys to your mental health and wellbeing
